Question about curse of companion in book of Tabari

Question

salam ‘alaykum
About Tarikh Tabari , Vol 11
The link is
From page 1 to 185..it is tarikh tabari ( last part)
From page 186 to 490 , some other book by some other scholar.
From page 491, a book by Imam Tabari begins..(a book on sahaba and Taba’een.)
On page 529 , look at the quote , the author Imam Tabari sends ‘lanah” on muawiya radi allahu anhu.
It says :

and jaafar ibn abi sufyan was one of the people who stood firm on the battle of Hunayn with the messenger of Allah pbuh among his companions, and he was still with his father with the messenger of Allah until he died, and jaafar died in the khilafah of muwawiyah (and the curse is mentioned here)

How do we explain this?

Answer -Wa Alaikum Al Salam wa Rahmat Allah wa Barakatuh

I looked at the referred to book, and would like to note that the 11th Volume is not an actual part of Tareekh Al-Tabarai rather additions to it.

Thus this volume contains three parts:
1) Silat Tareekh Al-Tabari (From page 1 to 185..it is tarikh tabari ( last part))
Actually as the Muhaqiq mentioned that this last part starts from the events of the year 291 – 320 H.
Now al-Tabari as you can look up died in 310 H.
To add to this, the first page of the book is lost, which makes it not easy to state who its author is.
Al-Tabari himself did continuation to his book, as well as others, but the Muhaqiq states the author of this portion to be: 3areeb ibn Sad Al-Qurtubi
In any case … that was not you question, but just wanted to comment on the part in red.

2) From page 186 to 490 , some other book by some other scholar.
This is a different continuation to Tareekh Al-Tabari 295 H – 367H, and the author is Muhammad Al-Hamazani
3) From page 491, a book by Imam Tabari begins..(a book on sahaba and Taba’een.)
Actually this part is not accuarte. The book known as Al-Muntakhab is not by Imam Al-Tabari.
Imam Al-Tabari had two books, one he named: Al-Muzayal, and the second he called: Zayl Al-Muzayal.
These two books are lost.
The author of the Muntakhab relied on the Zayl in his work, but who the author is, is not known. what is known is that he wrote the book around the 10th century as the Muhaqiq states.
So that book or any La’n you might find in it cannot be attributed to Imam Al-Tabari [Rahimahu Allah]
Hope that answered your question
