al-Salamu `Aleykum,

How did `Ali ibn abi Talib (ra) distribute the Khums during his Khilafah? Another Wahhabi trait of Ali!

We have two narrations from Mustadrak al-Hakim al-Naysapuri regarding the topic. The Matn of both is similar but the Sanad differs so I will translate one Matn and go through both Isnads.

Text of Hadith:

[`Abdul-Rahman bin abi Layla said: I heard `Ali may Allah be pleased with him say: “The Prophet (SAWS) charged me with spending the Khums of the Khums, so I spend it the same way it was spent during the days of the messenger (SAWS) and Abu Bakr and `Umar may Allah be pleased with them.”]

حدثنا الشيخ أبو بكر بن إسحاق أنبأ يعقوب بن يوسف القزويني ثنا محمد بن سعيد بن سابق ثنا أبو جعفر الرازي عن مطرف عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي ليلى قال : سمعت عليا رضي الله عنه يقول : ولاني رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم خمس الخمس فوضعته مواضعه حياة رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم و أبي بكر و عمر رضي الله عنهما

هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد و لم يخرجاه

al-Dhahabi in Siyar al-A`lam 15/487 described him as:
الصبغي: الامام العلامة المفتي المحدث، شيخ الاسلام، أبو بكر أحمد بن إسحاق بن أيوب بن يزيد، النيسابوري الشافعي المعروف بالصبغي

“al-Imam, al-`Allamah, al-Mufti, al-Muhaddith, Shaykh al-Islam, Abu Bakr Ahmad bin Ishaq bin Ayyub bin Yazid, al-Naysapuri, al-Shafi`i, known as al-Subghi.”

2- Ya`qoub bin Yusuf al-Qazwini:

al-Dhahabi in Tareekh al-Islam 20/496:
ابن أخي حسين. سمع: القاسم بن الحكم العرنيّ، وغيره. وعنه: أحمد بن محمد بن رزمة، وأبو بكر أحمد بن إسحاق الصّبغيّ الفقيه، وجماعة. كان صدوقاً. توفّي سنة ثمانٍ وسبعين.

3- Muhammad bin Sa`eed bin Sabiq:

In Tahdheeb al-Kamal:
قال يعقوب بْن شيبة: ثقة صدوق وذكره ابن حبان في كتاب الثقات
وقال الحافظ أَبُو يعلى الخليلي القزويني ثقة كبير المحل , توفي بقزوين سنة ست عشرة ومائتين

In Taqrib al-Tahdheeb by Ibn Hajar:

أبو جعفر الرازي التميمي مولاهم مشهور بكنيته واسمه عيسى بن أبي عيسى عبد الله بن ماهان وأصله من مرو وكان يتجر إلى الري صدوق سيء الحفظ خصوصا عن مغيرة من كبار السابعة مات في حدود الستين

-Saduq, his memory is bad especially from al-Mugheerah.

5- Mutraf:

In Tahdheeb al-Kamal:

قال عَبْد اللَّهِ بْن أَحْمَد بْن حنبل، عَن أبيه، وأبو حاتم ثقة  .

-He narrated from ibn abi Layla.
-`Abdullah bin Ahmad bin Hanbal from his father and abu Hatam: Thiqah.

6- `Abdul-Rahman bin abi Layla:

Tahdheeb al-Kamal:

وقال إسحاق بْن منصور، عَنْ يحيى بْن معين: ثقة .
وقال أَحْمَد بْن عَبْد اللَّه العجلي:كوفي تابعي ثقة .

-Narrated from `Ali (ra).
-Yahya bin Ma`een: Thiqah.
-al-`Ijli: kufi Tabi`ee Thiqah.

7- Muhammad bin Ya`qoub:

al-Dhahabi described him in al-Siyar:
محمد بن يعقوب بن يوسف بن معقل بن سنان الإمام، المحدث مسند العصر رحلة الوقت أبو العباس الأموي مولاهم.

8- al-`Abbas bin Muhammad al-Dawri:

9- Yahya bin abi Bukayr:

ع (الستة) يحيى بن أبي بكير واسمه نسر (2) الاسدي القيسي أبوزكرياء الكرماني. كوفي الاصل. سكن بغداد.
قال حرب بن إسماعيل سمعت أحمد يثني عليه وقال عثمان الدارمي عن ابن معين ثقة وقال العجلي كوفي ثقة وقال أبو حاتم صدوق وذكره ابن حبان في الثقات وقال مات بعد المائتين
