How Truthful was Saduq? (Article written by waqifi shia)

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

In the previous article, Alteration and Reorientation of Text in Twelver Shi`ism, we discussed how a pattern of alteration to ahadith in Twelver books can be detected, where previously non-Twelver narrations (including explicitly pro-Sevener/Waqifi narrations) will be altered to reflect the later Twelver theology.  In this article, we will focus on one scholar in particular, Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Babuwayh al-Qummi, famously known as Shaykh Saduq, one of the most prominent figures in Twelver Shi`i hadith collections, whose Man La Yahdaruhu a-Faqih is considered one of the found major canonical source collections of Shi`i hadith. Many – even most – of the very pro-Twelver narrations that people will cite are to be found in his books such as his Kamal ad-Deen, and so it is important to analyze how reliable the man himself was in what he would report. Shaykh Saduq manipulator

Bismillah wa salatu wa salamu ala rasullah.

Shaykh of shias al-Khui said in his book “Mojam ar-Rijaal”:

and one question remains. He (Muhammad as-Saffar) was from shaykhs of shaykh Saduq. He (Saduq) said in al-Amali: Narrated to us Muhammad ibn al-Hasan as-Saffar – narrated to us al-Abbas ibn Maroof. See 1 hadith from 68 gathering.  And in 2 hadith from 82 gathering: narrated to us Muhammad ibn al-Hasan as-Saffar from Yaqub ibn Yazid. And he said in al-Ilal, first volume: narrated to us Muhammad ibn al-Hasan as-Saffar from al-Abbas ibn Maroof …………………. And obvious from  this, that he (Saduq) narrated from as-Saffar without any intermediate, and he was his shaykh. BUT THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE. Because as-Saffar died in 290 year, from what is known. And shaykh Saduq born after 300 year. And how is it possible that eh narrated from him?

Another example of “honesty” of Saduq.

al-Khui also said in other place of his book (9/83):

Translation:

4-th: as-Saduq mentioned in al-Amali, gathering 63, hadith 1: narrated to us Sad ibn Abdullah – narrated to us Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Eisa… al-hadith. And apparent from these words that he Saduq use to narrate from Sad ibn Abdullah without any intermediate. And this is not possible. Because Sad ibn Abdullah died in 299 or 301 year. And how Saduq which bore after could narrate from him?

Ayatollah al-Muzaffar distorting hadith from Sunnan Tirmizi

Bismillah wa salatu wa salamu ala rasulullah.

Salam alaikum wa Rahmatullah.

Once we have already posted an evidence from known shia scholar Jafar Subhani, where he clearly tampered hadith from Sunnan Tirmizi.

Just to remind people, imam Tirmizi narrated:

(Chain) fr0m Salim ibn Abdullah which narrated to him that he heard a man from people of Syria asking Abdullah ibn Umar about tammatu of umra to haj, and Abdullah ibn Umar said: Its permitted….

Their shaykh as-Saduq – khayanatul Ilmiyah

Bismillah wa salatu wa salamu ala rasullah. Salam alaikum wa Rahmatullah. Those readers who spent some of their times by browsing our blog, seen some articles about famous and known shia shaykh as-Saduq, ibn Babaweyh al-Qummi. However, we’d like to present couple of additional quotes from shias scholars and books, and some old one from other editions. Continue reading

On book of Sulaym ibn Qays

Salam alaikum.

I remember once during the debate on shia beliefs in Quran, one from them quoted book by Sulaym ibn Qays, as a proof that shia believe in authenticy of present Quran.

Taken from “Kitab ad-duafa” by ibn Ghadaere:

ghadairi ala sulaym 2

1 – Sulaym b. Qays. Al-Hilali. Al-`Amiri. Narrated from Amir al-Mu’mineen (as), al-Hasan (as), al-Husayn (as) and `Ali b. al-Husayn (as). This famous book is attributed to him. Our companions would would say that Sulaym is not known, and not mentioned in (any) report. I have found mention of him in places other than from the direction of his book, and not from the narration of Aban b. Abi `Ayyash from him. Ibn `Uqda has made mentioned hadiths from him in ‘Rijal Amir al-Mu’mineen.’ The book (attributed to Sulaym) is a forgery, no doubt about it. There is evidence showing what we have mentioned about it. From it: what it mentions about Muhammad b. Abu Bakr exhorted his father at his death. And for it: that the Imams are thirteen. And other than that. The isnads of this book vary. Sometimes by the narration of `Umar b. Udhayna from Ibrahim b. `Umar as-San`ani from Aban b. Abi `Ayyash from Sulaym. And sometimes it is narrated from `Umar from Aban without an intermediary.

Official page of ayatullat Sistani says about ibn Ghadaeere:

sistany

…. and ibn al Ghadaeere he is reliable in the matters of praise and critic more than an-Najashi, Shaykh (at-Toose) and (others) like them.

Ibn Tawus al-Hilli and his alleged shaykh

Not sure that there is a need in the introduction of ibn Tawus al-Hilli.

Just a quote from his book “Muhaj ad-Duat” (p 137, load here)

137_mahaj_ibn_tawus

He said:

And from this Dua to Mawlana commander of Faithful Ali (a), known as dua al-Yamane.
NARRATED TO US Abu Abdullah al-Husayn ibn Ibrahim ibn Ali al-Qummi, known as ibn al-Khayat…

Mushkilah: Abul Qasim ibn Tawus was born in 589 h.

Ibn al-Khayat was from shaykhs of Abu Jafar at-Toose.

At-Toose died in 460 h.

Opinions? How to explain such gap between people who suppose to met? Because ibn Tawus clearly used term “and narrated to US”. That term suppose that they have to met each other.

May be they met when ibn Tawus was sleeping?  I remember that sh. Mufid once debated with Umar :RA Anho: in his dream. )

Abu Basir’s testimony against himself and his fellows

:Bismillah:

:Salam:

Sheikh of shias as-Saduq in his “Maanil Akhbar” (p 165) narrated:

P 165_Abu Baseer testify

(Chain till) Abu Basir which said that he heard Abu Abdullah (alaihi salam) said: “The one who lies broke his fast”. (Abu Basir said) I said to him: “We have perished”. Imam said: “No I mean lie upon Allah AzWajal and upon the prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa alihi) and upon Imams (alaihuma salam).

Chain till Abu Basir:

Father of Saduq – Ali ibn Al-Husayn ibn Babaweyh. Muhadith, faqih and shaykh as he was described by Noore.
Sad ibn Abdullah was shaykh of taifa as he described by Najashi.
Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid was thiqah as said Hilli in “Hulasah”
Muhammad ibn Khalid al-Barqi was disputed. Hilli and Tusi praised him, and Najashi and ibn al-Ghadairi weakened him, as it is in “Hulasa”.
Ibn Abu Umayr from companions of ijma, some shia scholars said that if chain authentic till them, report is upright.
Mansur ibn Yunus – thiqat and waqifi as it is in “Hulasah”

Discussion:
What kind of result do we have from this report? Imam said that lie is breaking the fast. And one of the top shia narrators said after this – WE HAVE PERISHED. Sure he didn’t mean Imam, but he mean himself and his fellows. If this isn’t clear confession in lie, then what is?

Prophet’s (SAWS) narrations in al-Kafi

al-Salamu `Aleykum,

In order to prove that al-Sahih al-Jami` of al-Imam al-Bukhari (rah) is superior to al-Kulayni’s Kafi, I decided to do a research to collect ALL the Prophetic narrations in al-Kafi and the grading of their chains according to al-Majlisi.

This is a project in progress and I shall update this thread as I go on. I shall later post the research of another respected brother who collected all narrations of the Prophet (SAWS) in al-Kafi and which members from Ahlul-Bayt narrated them. Continue reading

Ibn Tawoos al-Helli the theif

al-Salamu `Aleykum,

It appears that the Shia scholar ibn Tawoos al-Helli (died 664.AH) who was described by Sheikh al-Islam ibn Tayymiyah (rah) as: “From the narrators of lies”, stole the book “I`lam al-Wara” written by the Shia scholar al-Tabrasi (died 548.AH), then he changed the title to “Rabi` al-Shia”. al-Imamah and the Fatahiyyah Shia

Bismillah, perfect and very detailed research from respected brother Hani from Tripoli, may Allah forgive him and his parents. (gift2shias)

ARTICLE:

al-Salamu `Aleykum,

The title is a bit vague as you can see, “al-Imamah and the Fatahiyyah Shia” so who are these Fatahiyyah and what is their purpose and position from the Imamah? to answer this let me copy a small part of “Firaq al-Shia” regarding the main Shia sects that popped up after al-Sadiq’s death. National Shia Geographic

Shia scholar Kulayni in his “Kafi” 8/51 narrated:

Muhammad reported from Ahmad, from ibn Mahbub, from Jamil ibn Salih, from Aban ibn Taghlib, from Abu Abd Allah (upon whom be peace), who said, I asked him about the earth: Upon which does it stand forth? To which he replied: It stands forth upon a whale. I asked: Upon which does the whale stand forth? To which he replied: Upon water. I asked: Upon which does water stand forth? To which he replied: Upon a rock. I asked: Upon which does the rock stand forth? To which he replied: Upon a bull’s smooth horn. I asked: Upon which does the bull stand forth? To which he replied: Upon the ground. I asked: Upon which does the ground stand forth? To which he replied: What an idea? Therewith is lost the knowledge of the men of knowledge.

Other shia sheikh Al-Majlese in “Miratul uqul” said it’s saheeh.

Bahrani on commentary from Saduq

Yusuf al-Bahrani in Hadaiq an-Nadera said about shia shaykh Saduq:

While he was discussing report he said:

Translation:

And apparently this commentary from the words of Saduq, WHICH HE OFTEN INSERTS IN THE REPORTS.

Saduq was one of the main figures in shia religion, and he is one of their greatest hadith scholars. So as you see Yusuf Bahrani testifies that this great shia muhadith OFTEN inserted in the reports his own comments.
